Dear fellow seekers,
As I have studied, I would like to share my thoughts on the great city:
The great city of which is spoken in verse 19 can only be the city of Babylon (which is symbolism for the antichrist).
Read Revelation 14:8 - And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
16:19 - And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the vine.
Why is she remembered?
18:5 - For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
18:10 - Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
18:21 - And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
17:5 - And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Since Babylon is responsible for all the abominations of the earth she will be remembered and thrown down into the sea of fire. Thus making an end to the great city!
I hope my thoughts are valuable for we all seek His truth.
Response from Watchman Bob:
Debby, I thank the Lord for your insights about modern Babylon the Great. However, I need to make one correction: Babylon is not identical with or symbolical for antichrist. Notice that Babylon the Great will be destroyed so that the ten "kings" may give their "kingdom" to "the beast" (antimessiah)(Rev 17:16-17).
